Halloween
Today is a big day at chez Cancro. Yes, it's Ava's first Halloween but that's not why I'm so excited. Today is Chris' last day of OB rotations. After two hellish months, we finally get a break. He actually gets to come home every night. YEAH!!

Santa - er, I mean Grandpa - and Ava
Chris was on call last Thursday so Ava and I went down to spend some time with Grandma and Grandpa Johnson. It was a quick trip but Ava was great. Here is a picture of my dad feeding her a bottle. One minute he resembles Teddy Roosevelt (great story if you don't know it) and the next Santa.
This is an outfit a friend gave her. She looked so cute that I had to stick it on here.

Slobber Monkey
Someone told me that when babies really start to slobber, they are about to get teeth. Ava has been drooling nonstop for almost two weeks now. Isn't she too young to start teething? Maybe this is normal for her. We've been calling her our little slobber monkey.

Deja vu? October Storm
Two years ago, we lived in Buffalo, NY. Known for its crazy lake-effect snow, it's not unheard of to get two feet of snow in 24 hours - but not in mid-October! Many of you may recall getting emails from me describing the carnage that storm had on Buffalo. Half of the trees had their limbs torn off. Most of Buffalo didn't have power for over a week. Crazy. Well, fast-forward two years and here we are again. This time we're in Billings, MT. We just got 22 inches of snow this past weekend. Fortunately, it was a "slow" accumulation over 3 days. Plus, Billings doesn't really have trees so the there was very little damage relative to what we saw two years ago. Either way, I guess we have to beware the Ides of October now.

On a positive note, Grandma Patti and Pop Pop were in town this weekend. As always, it was a lot of fun and Ava got totally spoiled. All my closets are organized, laundry done and house vacuumed. Chris is on a terrible OB call schedule (24 on/24 off), but somehow managed to spend a decent amount of time with us. Unfortunately, the weather really kept us from doing anything too exciting so most of the weekend was the grandparents gooing and gaaing with the babe. We did watch several movies and lots of football. (By the way, WHAT is up with the Patriots! Disgusting...) We dropped them off this morning and now we're just hanging out.

Geek in the Pink
I didn't really mean to have this song playing in the background. But, given that her eyes are crossed, tongue sticking out and she's wearing pink...maybe it fits. I shot this video this morning to show some friends that she's wearing an outfit they gave her. Cute, eh?

Renee's Visit
Auntie Renee visited this past weekend. It was so much fun to have her here. Although she could only stay for a long weekend, we made the most of it.
The first night she got in, we had a Scrubs party in honor of the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy. We're both insanely addicted. It was so much fun. We all wore scrubs (even Ava) and drank some wine (not Ava). Chris, who usually boycotts Grey's, even watched. I usually don't let him watch because he is
either doing one of the following: informing me that the current situation is totally unrealistic/inaccurate OR going into an extremely detailed description of whatever disease the patient has. The latter is totally distracting and often
prevents me from hearing the dialog. Usually I have to tell him to can it until the commercial break.
We also had a chance to run down to Powell and visit Renee's grandma and aunts. Renee is rarely back in Powell so it was nice for her to catch up with some of her family. Of course, we swung by both my Grandma Ruth and parent's house. Look at this picture of Renee...isn't she beautiful. Love it. We also hung out with some friends from high school and then drove back to Billings that night.
Chris had Saturday off so we went to our local farmers market (pathetic compared to Western NY farmers markets, by the way) and then went for a hike. Now, I just got the green light to exercise again so I was excited to get out and actually do something. However, I should have probably taken a smaller first step. We drove to Red Lodge and took a "short, family-friendly" five mile hike. It about killed me. Boy, do I have a long way to go. I was sore the next day but it felt good to burn some calories in a way besides nursing.
The next two days we just kind of hung out, drank coffee and listened to music. It may sound boring but we totally loved it. Here are some more miscellaneous pictures. Enjoy!
